Obituary of Walter Jaeger
JAEGER, Waldemar (Walter)
December 11, 1934 - Krobonosch, Poland
January 16, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Jaeger share the news of his passing on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the age of 87 years.
Walter was born in Krobonosch, Poland, and immigrated to Canada, arriving in Calgary, AB, with his family on August 6, 1953. A few years later, he met Hilda and they started a family. Walter was a go-getter. It started with his passion for baking, as he worked himself to a management level with the National System of Baking. Never one to sit back and take it easy, he decided to become his own boss, and created a chain of dry-cleaning businesses. Missing his love of baking and cooking, Walter decided to sell the dry-cleaning chain and opened a deli. Right to his last weeks, he was still baking for those he admired in his group of friends. His friends were very important to him as he truly valued their social companionship.
Walter is survived by his two sons, Harvey (Ann) and Ron (Lisa). He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Ellie and Wally; and brothers, Ernie and Fred. He also had admiration for his grandsons and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Pauline, his father August, and his brothers, Eric, Harry, and Bruno.
A Funeral Service will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, (3219 – 4th Street NW, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with a Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Jaeger’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
Walter was a very independent man, and without the help of the special people who work at Carewest, he would not have been able to stay in his own home until his passing. We would also like to thank all the staff on Unit 44 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital.
In living memory of Walter Jaeger, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
