Condolences
It is sad to hear of Jim Miller's passing. His impact in Calgary was enormous. I owned a downtown route and worked there for about a decade. It seemed to me that Jim would run the gamut of time and space and, in a sense, continues. His entrepreneurial spirit and charitable commitments earned him a place in Calgary's business community. My customers would always flock to my cart looking for something new and exciting to get them through the week. The Nutman Company did have a sweet reputation that spiced up the life of its customers. Jim's altruism and good humor will be sorely missed. I wish Jim's family well.
Pat, Kevin and Elisa, and family, my sincere condolences to you all. I first met Jim when he became one of our most cherished and favorite vendors who came to our Alberta Government Telephones and later TELUS buildings on a regular basis. He always gave a large portion of the proceeds of his sales to the Telephone Pioneers of America to help us with many of our charitable giving campaigns. Many times, he even gave a bit extra because of the cause we were supporting, especially at Christmas time. I met all of you and remember you all very well as Jim spoke so lovingly of you. He always had that great smile, a good story, a hilarious joke or just a great conversation to share with everyone and anyone he came across. It was always a pleasure to run into Jim and his family at the Calgary Stampede where he was making friends from all over the world.
First met Jim at Educo, 1970. He and Pat were on staff—Geof Tisch the leader. In 1994 I worked in Vancouver for the Nut Man. In 2002, Jim officiated at our wedding (Louise Bevan and Steve Stewart). Jim was a guy who got things done. He had a larger-than-life personality, and he loved hearing and telling stories. He never steered me wrong. He liked Americans (me being one), especially the entrepreneurial spirit he felt America represented. Jim worked hard the whole time I knew him. He just wouldn’t slow down—too many good ideas he wanted to pursue. Great presenter, always gave a lot of thought to his speeches. It was a privilege to be his friend. Our sincerest condolences to Pat, Kevin and Elisa and the rest of the family.
