Obituary of Brian Francis Fleming

February 17, 1953- Niagara Falls, Ontario

January 19, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Brian Francis Fleming, beloved husband of Cori Thiessen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the age of 68 years.

Brian was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on February 17, 1953, the youngest of four siblings.

Brian was very accomplished and was particularly passionate about working with others and being surrounded by family and friends.  As a business professional, professor and coach, Brian was a mentor to numerous colleagues and students, many of whom he was in contact with years after they had graduated or moved on to other roles.  One highlight of Brian’s career was retiring as a professor at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University. 

A life-long learner, Brian most recently graduated in 2014 from the Swiss Management Center University with a Doctorate of Management. Always up for a laugh, Brian was ever hopeful to be referred to as ‘Dr. Dad’.  Brian was also recognized as a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.

Besides his loving wife Cori, Brian is survived by his children, Laura Fleming, Adam Fleming and wife AJ, and Taylor Chiok and wife Kat. He is also survived by his sisters, Dianne and husband Ralph Snider, and Sheila Fleming; as well as his sister-in-law Barb Fleming and her children, Tara and Steve Fleming.

Brian was predeceased by his wife, Eva Fleming; his parents, Margaret and Frank Fleming; and his brother, Steve Fleming.

Throughout his cancer journey, Brian received incredible care from the staff at Foothills Medical Centre and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.  The family would like to thank the staff in these locations for the dedication and time they spent with Brian over the years.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.  With consideration for current capacity constraints, it is asked that those who wish to attend in person contact a direct family member to note their intent to attend in an effort to assure no one is turned away at the door. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Fleming’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Medical Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society.
