Obituary of Alojz "Louie" Danihel

Alojz Danihel, “Louie”, age 81, of Calgary went to Heaven on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

He was born in the Lamač borough in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia on February 24, 1940. He served as a soldier and musician in the Czechoslovak Army for 2 years, followed by 12 years in the South African Air Force, where he ended his honourable military career as a Sergeant. Alojz came to Canada in 1981 to meet his soulmate and love, Erlinda Gurion, his wife and life partner of 40 years. They had two amazing children together. Alojz was a storyteller and a linguist, fluent in five languages, telling stories of his adventures around the world and imparting lessons he’s learned about life along the way. He was an accomplished musician, playing the trumpet in the South African Air Force for dignitaries, often sharing his memories of laughter between himself and world leaders of the time. 

Alojz will be forever remembered. 

Besides his loving wife, Alojz is survived by his son, Frank Danihel; daughter, Kimberly (Brian) Kulbaba; and “perfect” grandson, Maximilian Kulbaba. Alojz is also survived by his brother, Paul Danihel (Lanie); sister, Viera Grulová; three nephews, Steven Danihel, Peter Danihel (Dominique Boulanger), and Andrej Grula (Vanda Grulová); two grandnieces and a grandnephew, Vivienne Boulanger-Danihel, residing in Calgary, AB, Natalie Grulová, and twin brother Joseph Danihel in Slovakia.
