Obituary of Evelyn Audrey Hastings

March 31, 1924 – Regina, Saskatchewan
January 24, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Evelyn Hastings (nee Kain), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 97 years.

Evelyn was born in Regina, SK, where she attended public school and later, business school. She worked in the Liberal Office, where she met her future husband, Earl. They were married in 1952, in Regina, SK, and moved to Medicine Hat, Vauxhall, and finally to Calgary, in 1957. They had three children by this time, and Evelyn became a full-time mother and homemaker. She was involved with the Renfrew United Church, both as a choir member and the leader of the boys’ choir. Evelyn loved singing and was also a member of the Coral Bells Choir. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting and swimming. She was an avid reader, and this was one pastime that she enjoyed right until she passed.

Evelyn was always a kind, caring, generous soul. She was a true ‘lady’, who took great care with her fashionable clothing and jewelry to match. She had a marvelous sense of humour and was always up for singing a little ditty for anyone interested. Though Evelyn may have come from humble beginnings, she enjoyed many global travels as a senator’s wife.

Evelyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley; daughter-in-law Debra, daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Jim Catley; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marjorie (Allan) Guy who resides in Regina, SK, and numerous relatives throughout Saskatchewan.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Earl, son Donald, sisters Frances, and Beatrice; and brother John (Jack).
