Obituary of Colleen Bowling (nee Campbell)

September 4, 1930 - Yorkton, Saskatchewan

January 26, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Colleen Bowling on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

Colleen, our wonderful mom, grandma, aunt and friend, will be forever missed by her children, Cheryl (Sam) Wertman, Jeff (Andrea) Bowling and Alison Bowling; as well as her son-in-law Richard Heerink. She will also be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Debra Wertman (Todd Lambeth), Jaime Wertman (Justin Stewart), Stephan Heerink, Mikael Heerink, Hayley Bowling and Jillian Bowling. Colleen was blessed with the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Walter Stewart in 2021. She will also be greatly missed by her sister-in-law and friend, Barbara (David) Ferguson. Colleen was loved by numerous nephews, and nieces, and her many dear friends. Colleen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim, in 2018 after 63 tremendous years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her cherished daughter, Diane Heerink in 2007 and her sister Lorraine Gillies in 2021.

Colleen was fiercely devoted to her husband and children. She was sharp as a tack and had a witty sense of humor, coupled with the unique ability to laugh at herself. While she was a relatively private person, she enjoyed visits with her friends and family, and always craved to be “in the know”.

There will be no funeral service as per Colleen’s request. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Canada at cysticfibrosis.ca. 

The family would like to thank the staff, and her friends at Signature Park Manor for making Colleen’s final years very comfortable and enjoyable. A special thank you, as well to Dr. Deanna Campbell for her home visits and compassionate care.
