Maureen Routly of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

 

Maureen was born in Calgary, AB, on October 10, 1934.  She was employed at CFCN for forty years. Maureen also worked at the Bay, the Stampede, Stampede Wrestling, and as a photo developer.

 

Maureen was particularly proud of the loving care she was able to give to her parents, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.  She loved gardening, spending time with her family, and was especially keen to people watch.  Maureen enjoyed spending time with her special cousin Maisie and the two of them were able to share many adventures together.  Maureen’s most memorable vacations were to Jamaica and Hawaii.

 

Maureen’s favourite quote was “Keep your face to the sun & you cannot see the shadow.”  She will be most remembered for her sweet and supportive nature, as well as her home-made Oreos!

 

Maureen is survived by her five children, Maurice (Joyce ) Routly of Calgary, AB, Laurie (David) Rock of Coronation AB, Leanne (Tony) Makowski of Calgary, AB, Debbie Routly of Calgary, AB, Dan Routly of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Aimee Rock Andrea Pinter (Jonathan), Alexis Forsythe (Jordon), Alanna Burwash (Jeff), Josh Makowski (Tanya), Adam Makowski, Christian (Kaylee Bretin) Makowski, Arkem “Lee” Imperious (Jessie), Aden Routly (Tanis Beaver), and Carlene Vliet (Patrick McTague); fourteen great-grandchildren, Bae-Lee (Martin Gonzalez), Daleney, Carter, Evan, Tessa, Ella, Danica, Charles, Edward, Kieran, Emmett, Adria, Charlee, and Kayle.  Maureen is also survived by her brother, David Weegar of Calgary, AB; a special cousin, Mae Ollive of Stettler, AB; a sister-in-law, Marion Weegar of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Belle, her brother Robert, two grandchildren, Amanda Rock, and Nicholas Makowski as well as her two pets Bubbles and The Rock.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Those attending will be asked to provide valid government identification (with name and date of birth) AND confirm one of the following: (A)Provincial vaccine record with QR code (paper or digital); OR (B)negative COVID test (within 72 hours); or (C)valid medical exemption (signed letter); OR (D)under 12 years of age.
