Alfred “Fred” Baker, beloved husband of Irene Baker (nee Los), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, at the age of 91 years.

 

Fred was born at the Grace Hospital in Calgary, AB, to John and Nellie Baker. He worked in sales in the oil patch selling high end tools to the oil patch for many years. He also worked at the men’s clothing store, Moore’s in Calgary until he retired at seventy years old. Fred volunteered at the Calgary Stampede for forty-eight years, becoming a lifetime member after his retirement. Fred was known as Mr. Barbecue by those he loved, as he was a king of the craft. Fred and Irene would often host backyard shindigs with friends and family, where he loved to smoke meat and barbecue for his loved ones.

 

Besides his loving wife Irene, Fred is survived by his five sons and three daughters-in-law, Russ, Dean, Bruce and Sandy, Mark and Sandra, and Craig and Jan; daughter Vicki; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Pat, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Fred was predeceased by his parents, John and Nellie Baker; six brothers, George, Tom, Jack, Robert, Reg, and Jim; and his sister Frances.
