Obituary of Mary Stella Zys

March 26, 1968 - Scarborough, Ontario

February 3, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Mary Zys of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the age of 53 years.

Mary Zys was born in Scarborough, ON, on March 26, 1968. She graduated from University with a degree in Education, becoming a certified teacher. She moved to Calgary, AB in the late 1990s, where she met her life partner Ron.

Mary lived her life with an adventurous spirit and a love for life. She faced many difficulties and obstacles throughout her life but did so with grace and a passion to live her life to the fullest. She was always optimistic and positive in every pursuit she embarked on. She was an active member of the MS society for as long as her health would allow and was an advocate for MS research. Mary was always seeking out trials and experimental drugs to help herself and others in the pursuit of finding a cure for MS. Although Mary suffered from MS herself, she tried to make sure it didn’t hold her back from her passions in life. She had a love for animals, especially cats, becoming the adoptive mother of two cats, Roo and Eddie, who she absolutely adored. Mary also enjoyed going to concerts, theatres, and venturing the great outdoors, including Waterton Lake Park, William Watson Lodge, or just taking a nice drive through the Kananaskis area.

Mary’s most memorable vacation was when she was a child, she visited her family cabin in Northern Ontario. She spoke of this cabin and family with great fondness, cherishing those memories.

Besides her loving life partner, Ron Court, Mary is survived by her mother Joan Zys; her sisters, Liz and Carol (Bob); and her three nephews. She is also survived by Adam and Angela Court (Rob), and Lorraine and Jerry Johnson; as well as many other loving family members. Mary was predeceased by her father Joseph Theodore John Zys; and her grandparents.
