Bruno Baricevich

Obituary of Bruno Baricevich

February 17, 1938 – Lussinpiccolo, Italy

February 4, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Bruno Baricevich, beloved husband of Slavica Baricevich (nee Sestan), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Bruno was born in Lussinpiccolo, Italy, on February 17, 1938. Bruno and Slavica were married in 1960 and had their first and only child, Irina, in 1962. As a family they immigrated to Canada in 1964 and settled in Calgary, AB. Bruno worked in construction and roofing, mainly for Jager Homes in the trusses division, as well as with PCL Construction and Unitrade Fabrication Ltd. In 1989, Bruno and Slavica moved to Halfmoon Bay, BC, where they resided for 13 years before returning to Calgary, where they resided to this day.

Bruno had a passion for fishing and the ocean. He loved to go boating and spend time outside near the sea, as he did in his hometown in Europe. It was what he missed the most during his life in Calgary and he would always say:

“What were we thinking leaving such a beautiful place for the cold and snow?”

Bruno had a penchant for the sport of soccer and played for his army team while stationed in Osijek, Croatia. Soccer was his favourite sport, and he never missed a Eurocup or World Cup match! He also loved hockey and quickly became a huge fan of the Calgary Flames. Bruno loved to watch the games with his wife, son-in-law, or even on his own. He loved people and meeting new friends, as well as visiting with old ones. He had a huge smile and an infectious laugh, but mostly, he loved to sing! Bruno wouldn’t think twice about grabbing the microphone at whatever party he was at and making the stage all his own. He had an insatiable zest for fun, and everyone knew it. Bruno carried his passion of artisan bread making with him from Europe, where he worked in a bakery as a young man. His specialty was an Easter bread called pinzze, an absolute treat that he would share with his entire extended family. He shared all that he had; he had a heart of gold.

Besides his loving wife, Bruno is survived by his daughter Irina, son-in-law Arend; granddaughters, Kiahna, and Chelsea; and great-granddaughter Akasha. Bruno is also survived by his older brother Joe “Bepi” Baricevich, and brother-in-law Felice “Feliks” Corallini. Bruno was predeceased by his parents, Gregorio and Caterina; sister-in-law Josetta Baricevich, and younger sister Nadia Corallini.
