Obituary of Faye Ying Con 簡何慧英

April 12, 1937 - Vancouver, British Columbia

February 5, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with overwhelming sadness that we share the passing of Faye Ying Con on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the age of 84 years.

Faye was a beautiful person whom everyone loved because she was so friendly and good-natured, always treating others with great kindness. Family gatherings were the events that Faye looked forward to the most, especially the ones where cake was served. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took them on shopping trips, to the Calgary Stampede, and enjoyed playing with them in the backyard. Two of her proudest and most joyful life events occurred in 2020 when she attended the weddings of both of her grandchildren, Sylvia, and Scott.

To say that Faye was young at heart is an understatement. In the 1980’s, she literally jumped onto the aerobics craze and often demonstrated her incredible moves in the family living room. She maintained her active lifestyle by joining Spa Lady, where she met up with her girlfriends like clockwork well into her 70s and sustaining those relationships well past. Faye enjoyed her part-time shift at the Northland Walmart, where she found it easy to build lasting friendships with her colleagues. She was a regular library visitor and enjoyed many types of music as well as classic movies. Her music collection included Lawrence Welk, Elvis Presley, Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Michael Bublé, and even Destiny’s Child. If an Elvis movie came on TV, it wasn’t wise to get between her and the remote. Faye and Watson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by attending a Tony Bennett concert - she was so thrilled to see him live and absolutely loved it. In retirement they explored New York City, the Great Wall of China, and also travelled to Japan to attend son Rodney’s wedding.

She will be forever missed by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Watson Con, whom she met in 1954, three children, Carey Con, Nancy (Brian) Smith, and Rodney (Kiyomi) Con; two grandchildren, Sylvia (Jake) Adam, and Scott (Joanne) Smith; as well as her much-loved great-grandchildren, Maya, Kaci, and Olivia. Faye was predeceased by her adoptive parents, Hong Lai Har and Yuk Sing Ho; brother Gain (Phyllis) Ho, and half-sister Nora Jung of Vancouver, BC.

A Family Gathering will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 6007 – 1A Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 0G5 Telephone: (403) 255-6108, www.kidney.ca.
