Robert (Bob) MacLean

Obituary of Robert (Bob) Henderson MacLean

April 14, 1926 – Bassano, Alberta

February 9, 2022  – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a great father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob MacLean of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the age of 95 years.

Bob was born in Bassano, AB, and spent his young years on the prairies. He enlisted in the Navy at age eighteen. As a WWII Navy Veteran, he was always proud of the time he spent at sea on the Corvettes. After his service with the Navy, he returned home and met the love of his life, Eunice who became his wife and mother of his daughters. After the passing of Eunice at 39, Bob kept his daughters with him and remarried several years later to Mary Mathews who also predeceased him.

His career took him to all corners of Alberta. Whether it was driving a Cat in the Yukon and Northern Alberta, felling trees to build the dam at Spray Lakes, driving a big rig across Western Canada, welding pipelines throughout Alberta or building compressor stations for Nova; he worked hard. Bob also took up flying while he was on the road and loved his time in the air. He was able to fly a small plane for his 95th birthday which gave him a huge thrill. Golf was his favorite pastime; spending hours with his friends at courses in the City and Palm Springs where he spent winters.

Bob will be sadly missed by all of his girls, Debbie Cunningham (Ken), Carol Newbury (Bob Hillcoff), Gail Berquist, Brenda Miller (Rodd), Janet Marlatt (Colin), Shelley MacLean (Bill Bell) and Tracey Nemeth (Geza). He had a wonderful family with ten grandchildren, Robert Humphries, Christine MacLean, Dana Berquist, Riley and Kelsey Miller, Carlie and Heather Marlatt, and Everett and Reid Nemeth. Bob was predeceased by Drew Berquist.  With nine great-grandchildren, he had a life full of love.

He will be forever in our hearts and missed everyday by all of his family.

A private Funeral Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
