Obituary of Gilbert Jamieson (Gib) Clark

November 9, 1940 – Regina, Saskatchewan

February 10, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gib Clark of Calgary, AB, on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the age of 81 years.

Gib was an amazing guy who travelled widely and made friends everywhere he went.

He is survived by his sons, Greg (Jessica Simon) and Rich (Sarah Feldman); grandkids, Laura, Miranda, Ben and Lyla; his sister Jocelyn McGhee (predeceased by Dick); and his first wife Dee Ann Clark. Gib greatly appreciated Dee's care and support through the years. He was predeceased by his son Russell; and sister Kay Goozee (Gerry).

Later in life, Gib met Jean Hepburn. Together they enjoyed many adventures all around the world. They loved to go on cruises and holidays to exotic locations, including a birthday trip last fall where they rode camels and travelled in motorcycle sidecars. Gib and family moved from Regina to Calgary when he was nine years old. He attended King Edward and Central High School before earning a business degree from the University of Montana. It was there he joined Sigma Chi fraternity, where he made many lifelong friends who kept in close touch. He talked frequently about the adventures and accomplishments of his brothers, and he cherished their reunions. After graduation Gib attended law school at the University of Alberta, which set him on a career path that would last nearly 40 years.

Gib's proudest achievement was his cottage at Sylvan Lake, which he built with his own two hands. He and family had so many great times there, and Gib spent countless days tinkering and working on projects. He put his woodworking skills to use building many pieces of fine furniture for family and friends.

He lived life to the fullest and had many adventures; a role in a made for TV movie, a passion for politics, two long treks in Nepal, golfing with his boys, walking the Camino in Spain, running four marathons and completing a 10k race at age 70.

Despite being fully vaccinated, covid found him like it has so many others. It exposed other health conditions the vaccine was unable to stop, and it meant this was the end of Gib's remarkable journey.

Per Gib's wishes a private family funeral will be held, and we hope to hold a larger Celebration of Gib’s Life later this spring. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

Special thanks to the team at Rockyview Unit 93. You went above and beyond to give Gib the very best care through trying circumstances, and when it was clear it was his time you gave him comfort to the end.

In living memory of Gilbert Clark, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
