Obituary of Geri Anderson

December 11, 1960 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

February 10, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Geri Anderson on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the age of 61 years. Geri had an incredibly strong faith and is now in the arms of her Lord and Saviour.

Geri was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. She faced her cancer journey with courage, strength, and grace. Geri had the privilege of living a full and blessed life surrounded by her loving family, relatives, countless lifelong friends, and colleagues. Geri loved the Okanagan, visiting wineries and spending time with friends at Gallagher Lake, BC, every summer. Geri and Gord enjoyed camping, hiking, and paddleboarding while taking in the beauty and solace of God’s country. They also had many fun-filled adventures during yearly trips throughout North America. Geri was passionate about her 42 year career as a registered psychiatric nurse. For 24 years she worked in clinical trial research and contributed to publications in professional medical journals. For the last 13 years she worked in research at the Cummings School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Geri was a supportive parent volunteer and helped coordinate countless volleyball and hockey tournaments for her children, Lindsay and Mark. She was their number one fan and could always be found in the stands cheering them on. Geri passionately loved her family and was loved by them more than words can say. Geri and Gord enjoyed entertaining and often welcomed friends and family into their home. She was an organized host and made each event memorable for those in attendance. Geri was a dedicated parishioner at St. Albert the Great Catholic Parish and was a member of the choir for many years. Geri’s presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We will carry her in our hearts forever.

Grieving her loss is her loving husband and best friend of over 40 years, Gord; her beloved children, Lindsay (Matthew Thygesen), and Mark (Tatum Vos); her mother Mary Woyton; her sister Cheryl Mack (Lyle); and nephews, Lucas, and Ayden; father-in-law, Roy Anderson (Elaine); and sister-in-law, Cheryl Caldwell (Greg). Geri is also survived by her Uncle Ed, Aunt Del, special cousins, their families, and many dear friends. Geri was predeceased by her dad, Tony Woyton, in 2002; and her mother-in-law, Eunice Anderson, in 2006.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff at South Health Campus and Southwood Care Centre Hospice. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Geri's palliative home care nurses, Dr. Carla Montgomery for her care and support, as well as Dr. Patricia Tang and the nurses and doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
