Obituary of Ronald (Ron) Tizzard

Ronald Frederick Tizzard of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the age of 90 years.

Ron was born in Portsmouth, in the county of Hampshire, England on December 29, 1931.  He moved from Portsmouth to Peterborough in 1953, and then to Croydon, London in 1958. He immigrated to Vancouver, Canada with his wife and children in 1964.

Ron valued education and from the time he graduated from Portsmouth Northern Grammar School in 1947 with an Oxford School Certificate, sought out further learning opportunities. In addition to his apprenticeship with the City of Portsmouth as an electrical fitter and turner, he achieved qualifications in electrical engineering from Portsmouth College of Technology (1953), Peterborough Technical College (1958) and The Polytechnic – London (1959).

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers in the United Kingdom and was a Professional Engineer registered with The Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia in Canada. Ron had an eye for accuracy throughout his life and took pride in his attention to detail, particularly when it came to Excel and computer programs in his later years.

He served in the Royal Air Force as a junior technical electrician and was stationed in Peterborough, England at RAF Upwood from 1953-1955.

Ron married his wife, Beryl Evelyn Stone, in 1954. Following their divorce, Ron married Judy Souter in 1974.

Ronald is survived by his two daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and Dave Levy of North Vancouver, BC, and Lindsay and Chris Mintram of Burwash, East Sussex, England. He is survived by his three sons and one daughter-in-law, Stephen and Pat Tizzard of Calgary, AB, Jon Tizzard of Galiano Island, BC, and Ryan Tizzard of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Valarie, Julian, Matthew, Denise, Ethan and Myles, and his great-grandchild Raena.

Ron’s family wishes to thank the care team of the C3 Program in Beddington and Dr. Zabal for their love and dedication to Ron in his later years. They are thankful for the safe, welcoming space this program provided.
