Obituary of Valerie Ann Andrews

April 19, 1962 – Calgary, Alberta

February 12, 2022 - Red Deer County, Alberta

Valerie Andrews (nee Schmaltz), beloved wife of Jim Andrews, of Red Deer County, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the age of 59 years.

Valerie was born in Calgary, AB, on April 19, 1962. She was raised in Beiseker, AB, where she graduated and first began dating her now husband, Jim. From there she attended Henderson Business College in Calgary, where she earned a diploma as an Administrative Assistant.

At this time Valerie and Jim moved in together, and she began her career at the University of Calgary. After 10 years of being together, Valerie and Jim finally united in marriage on June 11, 1988. She continued to work at the University until she decided it was time to raise her own family in 1989, when Andrea was born.

They spent a few years in Airdrie, AB, before they settled at a beautiful acreage West of Bowden, AB, in 1998, where she was most happy, making many wonderful family memories.

Valerie accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of when she donated her liver to her daughter Andrea, the birth of her grandchildren, completing a Duathlon, and becoming a Commissioner for Oaths.

Valerie enjoyed being with family whether it was caring for her grandkids, card and board games around the table, taking trips and vacations, yoga classes with her daughters, going on hikes in the mountains or adventuring on motorsports vehicles around the farm. She loved to help and provide advice for everyone, especially her children.

Valerie had a love and kindness she offered to those around her, which was based on the roots and connection of her family. She sparkled with life and loved to have fun. She often scheduled the events and concerts which brought her family together.

Valerie has had many memorable vacations, including trips to Arizona, New Orleans, Nashville Tennessee, Disneyland, Hawaii, as well as Mexico.

Besides her loving husband Jim of 43 years, Valerie is survived by her three daughters, Jillian Raymond of Darwell, AB, Andrea and son-in-law Devin Swanson of Sylvan Lake, AB; Celina Andrews of Edmonton, AB; son Timothy Andrews of Edmonton, AB, as well as three grandchildren, Lily and Ethan Pudlo of Darwell, AB; and Violet Swanson of Sylvan Lake, AB. She is also survived by her father, Lawrence Schmaltz of Calgary, AB, as well as her brother Calvin and sister in-law Paka Schmaltz of Edmonton, AB.

Valerie was predeceased by her mother, Alice Schmaltz (nee Bartelen) and her two sisters, Norine and Cheryl Schmaltz.

A Funeral Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
