Obituary of Margaret (Elaine) Howie

Margaret (Elaine) Howie was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

She was born to Thomas and Mary Mulgrew on October 21, 1933. She grew up with eight brothers and sisters. Being the oldest daughter brought lots of chores and responsibility that she carried throughout her life.  Elaine met her future husband, Jim, in 1949 and they spent the next 72 years loving each other until his death in November 2021. Elaine loved her four children, Colleen, Joy, Jim Jr, and Brad. Sadly Jim Jr (2001) and Joy (2016) predeceased her.

Elaine was happiest with family and others around, enjoying her cooking. She was known for her soups, roast beef, turkey, pies, butter tarts, and cookies. You never left her house without a care package that we all enjoyed for days after the visit. Later in life, Alzheimer's took its toll on her but even that did not stop her from spreading joy with her laughing and tapping of her feet to good old Irish music.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 18, 2022, the family ask that anyone who is fully vaccinated are invited to attend from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  All those who are not vaccinated along with anyone who is vaccinated are welcome to attend from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
