Obituary of Alvin Bauer

BAUER, Alvin

August 28, 1932 – Burstall, Saskatchewan

February 15, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Alvin Bauer of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the age of 89.

Alvin was born in Burstall, SK on August 28, 1932.  His father worked for the CPR and their family was transferred to Nacmine, AB.  His childhood was spent in this little village which was four miles from Drumheller, so Al completed High School in Drumheller, AB.  Al was also proud of achieving the rank of Sgt. in the Canadian Army Militia in which he served for ten years.

Al was smitten by a beautiful girl with a Scottish accent named Betty and they married on October 4, 1958 and made Calgary, AB their home.  Al and Betty both came from very large families and had three children of their own.  Family was the very core of Al’s being in terms of how hard he worked for them and that most of his free time was spent enjoying activities together.  Al started his career working for Remington Rand repairing typewriters, comptometers and photocopiers.  Al finished his career working for TC Energy (formerly TransCanada Pipeline, formerly Nova) in their Airdrie location tool room as a tool room technician.  Al was a handy-man extraordinaire!  There was nothing he couldn’t fix, repair or rebuild.  Al was also a talented accordion player, who played all his repertoire by ear – if he recognized the song, he could play it.  At all the Bauer clan gatherings there was entertainment provided by Al on accordion and his brother Will on Trumpet.  Al enjoyed many years of camping with his family and managed to take his children and grandchildren on trips to Hawaii and Mexico.  He also enjoyed travelling with his wife on many trips to Scotland and sunny destinations.

Besides his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty), Al is survived by his daughter Linda (Tony) of Calgary, AB, his son Robert (Tracy) of Sherwood Park, AB, son Stephen (Yvonne) of Calgary, AB; his grandchildren, Kaitlin (James) of Toronto, ON,  Sean (Reagan) of Calgary, Jordan (Jenelle) of Calgary, AB, Zoe (Mike) of Sherwood Park, AB, Ryley (Chris) of Vernon, BC, Stephanie and Margaret of Calgary, AB; his great-grandchildren, Kiegan, Asher, Myles, Arlo and Rooney.  He is also survived by his brothers, Will (Marion) of Calgary, AB, Rein (Lorraine) of Calgary, AB, Harvey (Lou) of Saskatchewan, sister-in-law Pat of Edmonton, AB and many brothers and sisters in-law residing in Glasgow, Scotland.

Al was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and John Bauer, his brothers John and Art Bauer, his sister Min Omelchenko and sister-in-law May Bauer.
