Obituary of Ruth Liedtke

LIEDTKE, Ruth (nee Knak)
June 18, 1936 – Zadmele, Poland
February 16, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Ruth Liedtke of Calgary, AB, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

Ruth was born in Zadmele, Poland, and immigrated to Canada in 1954.  She continued her journey west to Calgary where she married, raised a family and always looked forward to planting a vegetable garden and beautiful flowers.  Ruth will be remembered as a resilient and loving mother of Vivian (Mike), Leroy (Lorette), Andrew (Barb) and Annette (Clayton); affectionate Oma to 12 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was particularly proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren supporting them every step along their way. Family gatherings brought her joy and provided many cherished memories. Ruth is survived by her brother Alfred (Maria) and sister Erica. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved partner Heinz Meyer. Together they enjoyed travelling, camping and dancing at accordion festivals.
 
The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Marc Webster, nurses and support staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and blessed by the kindness and compassionate care provided by the Rosedale Hospice Team.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Calgary.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lakeside Golf Club (555 Lakeside Greens Dr, Chestermere, AB) on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Ruth Liedtke, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
