Obituary of Jose (Joe) Ribeiro

March 2, 1929 – Macedo de Cavaleiros, Portugal
February 17, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

José (Joe) Augusto Ribeiro, beloved husband of Cesarina do Carmo Ribeiro, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on Thursday, February 17, 2022 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 92.

Joe was born in Macedo de Cavaleiros, Portugal and immigrated to Canada with his brother, Camilo, in the late 1950’s. Joe worked for the City of Calgary Electric System for more than thirty years until he retired, when he was able to spend his time making wine, gardening, and watching sports. Joe was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching football and hockey. His favourite sport was soccer and he especially enjoyed watching his favourite team, Portugal, play. Joe was an eternal optimist, and it was rare to see him feeling down. He approached life with humour and positivity – nothing seemed impossible to him.

Besides his loving wife Cesarina, Joe leaves behind his son, Rodrigo Alberto Ribeiro of Calgary; his niece and her husband, Maria Filomena Ribeiro Anderson and Allan James Anderson; his sister Palmira of Portugal, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Portugal.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
