Obituary of Kjell Roger Gjertsen

December 29, 1944 – Bergen, Norway
February 21, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Kjell Gjertsen beloved husband of Carole Gjertsen (nee Carpenter) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the age of 77 years.

 

Kjell was born in Bergen, Norway on December 29, 1944, and he moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1953.

 

Kjell married Carole Carpenter in 1996. He enjoyed reading, photography and walking with Carole in Bowness Park.  He also had a passion for 'words'.

 

Kjell was a member of the Calgary Musician's Union and often volunteered with the Bowness Historical Society. He accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his years as a well-known jazz musician (drums) in Alberta.

 

Kjell’s most memorable vacation was when he and Carole traveled to Moraine Point Lodge on Great Slave Lake to spend time with Carole's brother, Bill.

 

He will be most remembered for his love of classical and jazz music.

 

Besides his loving wife Carole, Kjell is survived by his  son Tyron of Caroline, Alberta; and Carole's daughters Jennifer and Dana and grandchildren, Tony, Bruno, and Henry.  He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Einy and Bruce Yanda; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
