Raymond (Ray) Ross

Obituary of Raymond (Ray) David Ross

Raymond David Ross

August 2, 1941 – Barrie, Ontario

January 28, 2022 – Idaho Falls, Idaho

Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Raymond Ross of Calgary passed away on January 28, 2022, at the age of 80 years.  He is survived by his wife Dorothy Ross, sons Dean Ross (Cindy), Blaine Ross (Angela), stepson Trevor Griffiths (Amy) and stepdaughter Lisa Doll.  He had six grandchildren, Cole Ross, Corey Ross, Bryce Ross, Ashley Ross, Saoirse Griffiths, and Errol Griffiths.  He had four sisters Gay Ditchburn (Barry), Aileen (Tim) D’Aoust (Rob), Lynn Samoil, and Monica Bissonnette.

He was predeceased by his wife Janice (Hergert) Ross.

Ray was an avid fisherman, hunter, horseman, baseball & hockey coach and loved to travel. At the late age of 60, he was able to fulfill his dream of being a cutting horse competitor. He had some of his grandchildren riding horses as early as two years old.

In the years since his retirement, he travelled to Africa, Russia, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Italy, and most recently Greece.  He could spend days in museums as he was very interested in the history of each country he visited. He served with the City of Calgary as a firefighter for 37 years, retiring with the rank of Captain.  He always had a smile on his face when he was watching his grandchildren play hockey or the various other sporting events they played, visiting the cabin in Fernie, watching dance recitals, or teaching them some of his secret tricks for hunting and fishing. He was patient and kind with a heart filled with love for his family. He was affectionately known as Grandpa RR.

He will be forever missed by the people whose lives he touched in love and friendship.
