Obituary of Edward Samek

Edward Samek, beloved husband of Anna Samek (nee Krasinski), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the age of 95 years.
Edward was born in Zaremba, Poland on March 10, 1926. In 1940, he and members of his family were forcibly taken to Siberia where they remained until evacuated to Iran in 1942. While in Iran, Edward joined the Polish Armed Forces and was transported to England. Edward flew with the Polish Air Force as a tail gunner and radio operator until the end of the Second World War.
Edward trained as an electrical technician and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He worked for Alberta Government Telephones for 36 years, retiring in 1990.
Edward was actively involved with the Polish community in Calgary and was instrumental in forming the Polish Scouts Club following his arrival in Canada. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace church and was the president of the church council for fifteen years.
Edward married Anna in 1962. They welcomed a son, Andrew in 1963 and a daughter, Anita in 1964. Edward enjoyed the outdoors and spent a significant amount of time hiking and camping. He was particularly passionate about tennis and swimming.
In addition to his loving wife, Edward is survived by his son, Andrew (Valerie) and his daughter, Anita (Gregory). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Teresa Trjanski and Mary Krasinski. Edward was predeceased by his siblings, Witek, Walerek, Kazia, Jan, Julek and Anton.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church (2111 Uxbridge Dr NW, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
