Shane McLaren

Obituary of Shane Malcolm McLaren

March 12, 1986 – Edmonton, Alberta

March 3, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Shane Malcolm McLaren, beloved husband of Darcelle McLaren (nee Obodiak), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the age of 35 years.

Shane was born in Edmonton, AB, on March 12, 1986. He had a career at Gregg Distributors Ltd in the warehouse department. Shane married Darcelle in 2018. Shane accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of working to build the Alberta Children’s Hospital, marrying his wife Darcelle, and travelling to the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Shane had a passion for snowboarding, longboarding, biking, camping, hiking, backpacking, archery, and spending time with his wife. Shane enjoyed snowboarding with his dad and brother, backpacking with his wife, and mercilessly bugging his budgie. As well as being in nature and just seizing the moment.

Shane’s most memorable vacation was when he and Darcelle went to the Turks and Caicos Islands for their honeymoon in May of 2018.

Shane’s favourite saying was “don’t you know, I’m invincible”. He will be most remembered for his love of snowboarding, which made him feel like he could “fly like an eagle”. His love for his wife, always making jokes, and that laugh of his.

Shane is survived by his loving wife Darcelle, father Kevin McLaren of Calgary, AB, and mother Timme Firlotte of Edmonton, AB; one brother Mitch Hurd, two sisters, Shauna, and Christina; as well as his beloved Budge the budgie.

A Gathering will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

The family would like to say Thank You to Peter Lougheed Hospital to all the wonderful nurses, nurses’ aids, and doctors that kept Shane’s spirits up and eased his passing when the time came. Their compassion and love for him were great and touched our hearts.

In living memory of Shane McLaren, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403-248-8585.
