Obituary of Orlean Knihniski

April 3, 1933 – Hague, Saskatchewan

March 6, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Orlean Knihniski of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Orlean was born in Hague, SK, on April 3, 1933. Over her career she worked in the Stockyards office, in Sears boy’s wear, and held the Manager position with her husband, Vic at different hotels, apartments, and an RV Storage. She enjoyed doing jigsaw and any word puzzles, reading, doing embroidery, bike riding, fishing and walking, and was a passionate fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Calgary Flames. Her most memorable vacations included trips to Reno and Las Vegas.  She was a perfectionist and when helping family with some ironing was told that she did too good of a job with her pant creases!

Diane was an only child for 10 years until Orlean and Victor adopted Gord when he was 2.5 months old, and Diane became the natural big sister/babysitter.  Every Friday for many years, Orlean would make perogies (pyrohy) for her family.  When Victor went into the nursing home with Alzheimer’s, she moved to be close to him and would visit every day, making sure he ate well.

Her favourite quotation was: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” Orlean will be most remembered for her love and kindness to her family.

Orlean is survived by her daughter Diane (Keith) Taylor of Calgary, AB, grandchildren, Meagan and Shelby Taylor; and brother Bob (Sally) Deptuch of Wakaw, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Knihniski, son Gordon Knihniski, parents, Rose and Peter Deptuch; brothers, Ron and Wally Deptuch; sisters, Albina Paskarek, Sally Dmytrowich, Olga Deptuch, and Elsie Rudnicki.
