Obituary of Irene Twoyoungmen

(înâ Ubin) / (Wîyâ Jonny)

November 16, 1938 – Morley, Alberta
March 6, 2022 – Cochrane, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, niece, and friend, whom passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Ena Ubin has lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute of her life. She was a humble woman and was approachable. When you needed an ear for listening, she would always be available to listen and comfort you when needed, she never turned anyone away. She was a great believer of the traditional ways of the Indigenous culture and became a spiritual woman. She carried the medicine bundle and she became the second generation to carry on the traditional values. Since she has no children of her own, she adopted her siblings’ children and adopted Georgina, Faron, and Warren. She had multiple hobbies; beading, cooking, berry picking (especially cherry picking in the Okanogan country), medicine picking, outgoing, she was optimistic, and full of humor.

She also loved to travel, she travelled to the Yukon, Dawson Creek Yellowknife, California, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and was also on the Pow Wow Trail where she listened to the healing songs.  She was on the Indian Relay Races traveling crew and enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren competing in the races. Besides being alongside the horse track, she was also at the hockey arena, where she again continued to cheer on her grandchildren play. No matter what the event was, she would always attend and show support. When travelling, she would always travel with her sister Pauline everywhere she went and never left her side.

She is survived by her siblings, Florence Powderface, Helmer Twoyoungmen, and Pauline (John R.) Twoyoungmen, sister-in-law Margorie Twoyoungmen and brother-in-law Sykes Powderface. Her adoptive children; Georgina L. Twoyoungmen, Faron A. Twoyoungmen, Warren Twoyoungmen and Barrett Twoyoungmen, Lance Twoyoungmen, Martina (Ron) Poucette, Bernard (Rexanne) Twoyoungmen, Myers Twoyoungmen, Julene Twoyoungmen, Corleigh Powderface, Fred (Geraldine) Powderface. She is also survived by her cousins, Voila Wesley, Katheen Holloway, Voilet Beaver, Evelyn (Jeff) House, Virginia House, and Tater (Dixie) House.  She has 29 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and 86 great-great-grandchildren. She was survived by numerous relatives from the Beaver, Bull, Chiniquay, Crawlers, House, Holloway, Kaquitts, Mark, Tootosis, Twoyoungmen, Wesley, and Wildman families.

She is predeceased by her parents; Morley (1974) and Georgina Twoyoungmen (2001), her siblings; Arthur Twoyoungmen, Wallace Twoyoungmen, Georgie Mark, Lawrance Twoyoungmen, Felix Poucette, and Virginia Twoyoungmen.

The family apologies if they have missed anyone.
