FISHER, Gertrude Lizzie (nee Giesbrecht)

March 9, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Gertrude Lizzie Fisher of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the age of 93 years surrounded by her family.

Gertrude was born in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, Canada, on August 13, 1928. She moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1956. Gertrude had to leave school early to work on the family farm.  She attended Winkler Bible Institute in Winkler, Manitoba in 1943 as well as graduated with her GED as an adult. Gertrude married Eric Fisher on June 16, 1963 in Calgary.

Gertrude accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of raising her family, keeping up on relevant topics, being a caregiver and watching her children and grandchildren at numerous events and activities.

Gertrude was most proud of her personal relationship with the Lord and talking with others about it.  She enjoyed singing, gardening, jewelry, and keeping in shape.  Her grandchildren and family were her greatest love and joy. She was passionate about treasure hunting and finding something special for herself or others.  She was always up for the next adventure.

After she moved to Calgary, Gertrude spent most summers in Abbotsford, BC, to visit with her family.  She also was able to join her children and their families for camping and travelling whenever possible.

She will be most remembered for her great sense of humor, her energy and praying daily for her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her unique and special relationships she managed to create with all of those who knew her.

Gertrude is survived by her three daughters, Lorna and Robert (Bob) White of Calgary, Alberta; Leanne and Wade Strand of Calgary Alberta; JoAnne DeVries of Calgary, Alberta and Peter DeVries of Calgary, Alberta.  She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren Jen Dyck, Jeff (Tracy) Dyck, Brian (Coralee) White, Sheila (Michael) Yeoman, Krysten Strand, Coleton Strand, Austin Strand, Adrian DeVries, Braden DeVries, Carter DeVries, Marissa Devries.  She has eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Gertrude is also survived by her sisters-in-law Chris Fisher, Shirley Giesbrecht, Audrey Giesbrecht; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gertrude was predeceased by her spouse Eric (May 8, 2017), her son Donnie (November 1, 1984), her parents Peter and Helen Giesbrecht; her brothers Ernest and John; and her sister Stella Reimer (February, 2022).
