Obituary of Elsie Dorothy CAMERON

March 13, 1927 - Eastgate, Alberta

March 7, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Elsie Dorothy Cameron (nee Chaba) of Calgary, AB, passed away on March 7, 2022. Born March 13th, 1927, to Fredrick and Johanna Chaba, Elsie was one of two girls in a Ukrainian farming family of six in Eastgate, Alberta. She met her husband, Johnny, who came to Alberta from Nova Scotia, in search of work, made available by the local oil boom. They wed on November 24, 1951.  Elsie and John lived in Redwater, AB, Ithaca, NY, Estevan and Regina, SK, before moving to Calgary in 1971. Elsie worked as a teller in the pari-mutuel department for 28 years at Calgary Exhibition and Stampede.

Elsie’s happy place was in the garden, and that is where you would find her most summer days. She also enjoyed travelling, long drives, 5 pin bowling, bingo, and Chinese food, though not necessarily in that order. She was a wonderful cook and showed her love for others through the food that she created and shared with them.

Elsie is survived by her sons, John (Sherel) of Toronto, James (Janine) and Dickson of Calgary; daughter Janice Wright (Peter) of Arvada, Colorado, and loving granddaughter, Janay (Dylan) of Bend, Oregon, her brother, Henry of Redwater, and sister-in-law, Nancy of Edmonton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband John in 1997.

A memorial celebration led by Minister, Peter Coutts for close family and friends will be held at McInnis & Holloway (14441 Bannister Rd SE, Calgary, AB).

A special thank you to Bennette Aguirre and her team at AgeCare Glenmore for their care and attention to Elsie while she was a resident there. We are forever grateful to Joyce Guban, Mom’s guardian angel and companion for being by her side during her final days.
