Obituary of Stephen (Jack) John Staseson

March 12, 1940 - Limerick, Saskatchewan

March 11, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Jack Staseson, beloved husband of Mary Lou (nee Hodgson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 81 years.

Jack was born in Limerick, SK on March 12, 1940. His early years in this small town were spent helping in his parents’ general store, playing in his grandfather’s grain elevator, attending a one-room public school, and growing up as a small-town prairie boy!

Jack’s family moved to Moose Jaw when he was about eleven. He attended Ross Public School and Moose Jaw Central Collegiate where he made many life-long friends. His family then moved to Regina where his grade twelve year was spent at Central Collegiate. Jack went on to graduate from the U of S School of Engineering, and subsequently received his City Planning Master’s Degree from the University of Manitoba.

Jack was a professional engineer, urban planner, land developer, and a member of the Urban Development Institute. He worked with the City of Calgary, Underwood and McClellan, Daon, and eventually branched out on his own and founded Jason Developments. He was particularly proud of being a part of the development of the Bragg Creek Shopping Centre, a favorite destination for many Calgarians and visitors.

Milestones in Jack’s life were his wedding to Mary Lou and the birth of their son, Jonathan. The family spent many summers and winters together enjoying their cabin at Lake Windermere, and they also travelled to many other beautiful destinations around the world. Jack was a sports enthusiast and loved football, hockey, and golf. He was involved with the Calgary Stampeders and was a season-ticket holder for many years. He and Mary Lou also enjoyed their membership with the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs.

Besides his loving wife, Jack will be greatly missed by his son, Jonathan Dean (Melanie Norcross), and his granddaughter Saige Elizabeth. He is survived by his brother Harvey (Sharon), and his sister Patricia (Roy Smith). Jack was predeceased by his parents, Marie (nee Sopkow) Stephen Stefan, and John Staseson.

A private Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at a later date.  Condolences, memories and photos can be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

In living memory of Jack Staseson, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5.
