Obituary of Marion Knight Gravells (nee Blakey)

March 12, 1931 - Edmonton, Alberta

March 11, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Marion Knight Gravells (Mandy) beloved wife of David Gravells of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 90 years and 364 days after a bravely fought fight with dementia.

She was born in Edmonton, AB but chose to spend her life and raise her family in Calgary, AB. She was an artist of great talent, and she achieved a diploma from the Alberta College of Art in Visual Arts. She took her talent and education in and worked as an independent artist for years. She found a niche in designing and creating Liturgical garments for many Anglican priests and a few bishops.

Besides her husband David, who she was happily married to for 63 years she is survived by her older sister Jean, her sons, Doug and Chris, his wife Heather, and their two boys David Wayne and Michael John; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews also survive her. She will be dearly missed not only by her family but also by friends and loved ones she has met over the years.

A memorial will be held for Marion at St. Peter’s Anglican Church at some point in the next few weeks. In Liu of flowers, Mandy would have encouraged a small donation to Sorrento Centre, www.sorrentocentre.ca but small is the keyword, Mandy wasn’t cheap rather extraordinarily pragmatic. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Marion Gravells, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
