Obituary of Darren Scott MATHEWS

September 10, 1965 – Calgary, Alberta

March 9, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with truly heavy hearts that the family announces the unexpected passing of Darren Scott Mathews on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. He was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and treasured friend to many.

Darren, or Musicman, as he playfully penned himself, loved everything techie and entertainment. He was always grinning with excitement to tell you how “neat” or “cool” his newest gadget find, or the latest cinema release was. His collection of music and movies was one of his greatest treasures and he was eager to share it with anyone interested-especially family or his closest friend, Lord Ryan! He even got a tattoo on his arm to symbolize his passion for music and was a DJ for many years on the side.

Darren’s love of all things computer started at a very young age and led him to hold many positions as a valued IT technician. He was our go-to guy for computer fixes.

His absolute pride and joy was his daughter, Kaitlin, and the time they spent making memories together. He cherished family dinners at the farm, the yearly Mathews family picnics, and time spent with loved ones. Darren loved food and never passed up a chance to steal some “gubbins” from the turkey or roast, or have a great rib or seafood feast, and of course, you can’t forget the sweets!

Darren was a gentle, caring, loyal, intelligent and spiritual soul. His spirit is undeniably absent and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Kaitlin Mathews (Devan), grandmother Iris Mathews, mother Cheryl Howden, sister Tammy McCarthy (Jim), brother Danny Howden (Amanda); his aunts and uncles Jim Mathews (Edna), Jerry Mathews (Patti), Suzanne Mathews, Cindy Dutton, many cousins; his nieces and nephews Seth (Summer), Madeline, Macklin, Lachlan, Jade (Jamelle), and Cooper; as well as his beloved kitties, Crystal and Amber. He was predeceased by his dad Bruce Howden, and his grandparents Richard and Alice Mathews.

In living memory of Darren Mathews, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403-248-8585.
