Obituary of Nadean (Bernadette) Meyer

November 8, 1931 - Lethbridge, Alberta

March 12, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Nadean Meyer, beloved wife of Martin Meyer, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2022, at the age of 90 years.

Born in Lethbridge, AB, Nadean lived with her mom, dad, three sisters and one brother, until they moved to Calgary in 1950. In Calgary, Nadean attended St. Mary’s All-Girl Catholic High School, and then attended Garbutt Business College where she learned bookkeeping, typing and shorthand. She worked in a few retail places like Eaton’s and later, worked with a stockbroker.

She met the love of her life, Martin Meyer at the Catholic Youth Bowling League and they married in 1956. (They were just shy of their 65th wedding anniversary.) They had four busy and active sons. Nadean worked hard keeping the house running smoothly while taming her boys. She ran the family with an iron fist and dedicated herself to making sure her five boys (husband and sons) were clean, fed, and ready to go to work, school, and any activity they were off to. She loved bowling, gardening, camping, and travelling the world with Martin.

Nadean was an active volunteer for Canadian Martyrs Parish, where she was a key member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL) and would eagerly help in many other ways within the parish. Nadean and Martin were part of the founding members of the Calgary Winter Club, where she regularly curled and bowled and was a member of the bowling committee for many years.

We shall always remember her tough love approach, along with her dedication to her family, friends, and her passion for her Catholic faith. Nadean had an open-door policy for relatives and friends, providing support in various ways. One example of her family dedication was when she unofficially adopted her niece Roberta "Dee", who lived with her for approximately a year and a half while Roberta finished her high school studies.

Nadean is survived by her four children, Stephen (Deb), Martin J. (Janette), Patrick (Kathryn), and John (Anna); fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Kay, and Diane (Richard); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Martin, brother Peter (Marion), and sister Cecilia (Merv).
