Obituary of George Charles Britton

August 1, 1941 – Montreal, Quebec

March 11, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Britton of Calgary, AB, who passed away suddenly at home on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

George was born in Montreal, Quebec on August 1, 1941. In 1978, George and family (including Morris, the cat) packed the car and took a five-day road trip to start a new life in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. George married the love of his life, Judy, in 1964. They met when Judy was 15, and George was 17, and dated for five years before getting married in 1964. They were married for 57 years.

George enjoyed playing his drums and saxophone and played in a band in Montreal for many years. The family has fond memories of George and his dad listening to records on Christmas Day while George played his saxophone, and his dad played his harmonica. Heaven will be filled with music now that they are together once again. George had a passion for fishing and spent many weekends fishing in his beloved boat (Old Yellow) at Pine Lake. He also loved golfing at Delburne Golf Course every weekend with family and friends. George had many vacations over the years to Maui (where both his son and daughter got married) and to Scottsdale but he was most happy spending his leisure time at his trailer with his family.

George’s favourite quote was “shit happens”!

He will be most remembered for his love of his family.

Besides his loving wife, Judy, George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Jennifer, his daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Gus, as well as his granddaughter, Kaylee, who he adored. George was predeceased by his parents, Madge and George Britton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, at Country Lane Estates in Aldersyde. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
