Obituary of William Thomas Turnbull

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William (Bill) Turnbull, beloved husband of Lana Turnbull (nee Schultz), of Calgary, AB. Bill passed away peacefully at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the age of 70 years.

Bill was predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Lana, daughter Kimberley (Jordan) Black, his two grandchildren, Sarah, and Jackson. His four brothers, Donald (Jo Anne), Brian (Kat), Ross (Ria), and Ralph (Roberta) Turnbull; his uncle Ralph (Anne) Garnett, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He spent his childhood involved with the Salvation Army Band, Boy Scouts (becoming a Queen Scout), fishing, camping, and travelling. Bill was proud to be a Calgarian. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3475. He dedicated his career to the trucking industry. Bill was a company driver, owner operator, dispatcher, and branch manager in his career with Trimac Transportation. He served as President of the Alberta Transportation Industry Safety Association and proudly represented the trucking industry worldwide. Bill started and operated his own safety consulting company, Transportation Safety Specialists. Bill was awarded numerous awards during his long career in the industry.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Turnbull’s service streamed live on the day of the service (see below).
