Obituary of Donald George Strachan

November 28, 1943 – Ottawa, Ontario

March 19, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Donald Strachan, beloved husband of Patricia (nee Bratsky) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the age of 78 years.

 

Don was born in Ottawa, ON on November 28, 1943 to parents Jerry and Verna Strachan. He grew up in Clinton, ON, Summerside, PE, Calgary and Penhold, AB. He joined the military in 1963 and was proud to have served with NATO in Germany twice and in Cyprus as a UN Peacekeeper. Upon leaving the military he joined Alberta Correctional Services until his retirement in 2004. Don was very active in the community and volunteered in many areas, including youth sports, cadets, the UN Veteran’s Association, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285.

 

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Patricia and his two sons, Don and Darryl. He is also survived by his two sisters, Peggy Johnson of Calgary and Wendy Lloyd (Thomas Boden) of South Jordan, Utah; and by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, as well as the Bratsky family in Montana.

 

Don was predeceased by his father and mother Jerry and Verna, brother Bob Cameron; and sisters, Cheryl Strachan and Joanne Baxter.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion – Centennial Calgary Branch #285 (9202 Horton Road SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Legion. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to RCL Branch #285 and/or the Veterans Association Food Bank.
