Obituary of Edwin Brilz

March 19, 1931 – Richmound, Saskatchewan

March 19, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Edwin Brilz of Calgary, AB, beloved husband of the late Lydia Brilz, passed away peacefully on his 91st birthday, March 19, 2022.

Edwin was born in Richmound, SK, and moved with his family to Medicine Hat, AB, when he was 24 years old. Later on he moved to Calgary, and there he met and married Lydia on November 14, 1964.

Besides his loving wife, Edwin was predeceased by his father Ralph, his mother Emelia, and his sister Isabell. He is survived by his sister-in-law Lillian Hladky, her husband James Hladky, his nephew David Hladky (Adrienne, son Elyas), niece Karen Gallant (Allan, children Allison, and Ryan), and numerous cousins that seem to make up most of the population of Saskatchewan and Southern Alberta.

The family wants to send gratitude to those of you who had the opportunity to connect with Edwin, whether in person or virtually (online). The past few years have been lonely and distancing for so many, and you made sure that Edwin stayed connected and loved through it all. We would also like to send sincere thanks to all of the staff at Care West Royal Park for their excellent care of Edwin. They made his last days so comfortable. He passed knowing he was well cared for.

A Celebration of Edwin’s Life and a reception will be held at McInnis and Holloway Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre St N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Saturday March 26, 2022 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the celebration there will be a brief ceremony at the graveside in Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB T2M 3A6). Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Edwin’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
