Dorota Klimek

Obituary of Dorota Klimek

November 29, 1964 - Gorzow Wlkp, Poland

March 22, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

The family of Dorota Klimek (nee Borowiak) is sad to announce her passing on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, after a long and exhausting fight with cancer at Foothills Medical Centre. Dorota was a beloved wife, mother, and sister, who will carry on in our hearts.

On November 29th, 1964, Dorota was born in the Polish city of Gorzow, Wielkopolski. In her youth, Dorota gained a love for shoes and perfumes from her father and grandfather. She also devoted her time to helping younger generations, through childcare and working in a youth organization.

It was here, in Gorzow, that she met her husband, Kazimierz Klimek. Their oldest child, Barbara, was born in 1987. The following year, she and her husband decided to take the first step in immigrating to Canada, by moving to Germany. They spent the next 2.5 years in Germany and on March 1, 1991, the family moved to Calgary. Here they joined Dorota’s sister Anna and her family. This move to Canada represented a new life for Dorota and her family. A few months after their arrival, the twins, Michal and Katarzyna, were born, followed by Marta five years later.

Now the family is growing again; she has one granddaughter and twin granddaughters on the way. While it is sad that she won't be able to see them, we believe that she will always watch over them and they will feel her presence. Along with her biological family, she acted like a mother hen to many people that she met over the years. She was loved by many.

She helped those around her by offering support, advice, a listening ear, and healing where she could. She was the center of the family, keeping busy with plenty of activities and she enjoyed hosting at her house. She took joy in being with people, whether it was through events, performances, or simply sitting around the kitchen table. It was at that kitchen table that her hospitality shone through, as you were not allowed to leave unless you had eaten too much or had something to drink.

She was very supportive and a great companion for her husband. Together they had many adventures traveling the globe, from going to Caribbean countries to seeing the solar eclipse in the States. Kazimierz always said she was “his eyes and ears”.

She will forever be remembered as a positive force in this world, and an adventure-loving companion who has left us with many beautiful memories.

Dorota is survived by her loving husband Kazimierz; her children Barbara, Michal, Katarzyna, and Marta; sons-in-law, Bastiaan Frank and Collin Hamon; granddaughter Elora Hamon; as well as her sister Anna Zielinski; her nephews Tomasz, Krzysztof, Adam, and their families.
