Obituary of Henry Lincoln Flock

FLOCK, Henry Lincoln

January 6, 1928 – Calgary, Alberta

March 28, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Flock announce his passing on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the age of 94 years.

Henry was born on January 6, 1928. Raised in Calgary, AB, where he grew up in a family of modest means. Henry, along with four brothers and one sister traveled across Canada with their father Henry Senior, entertaining many with their Vaudeville style act of Song and Dance.

A natural entrepreneur, Henry not only created and led a number of successful businesses, along the way he impacted the lives of all who knew him. Over his 70+ years in business, Henry Flock founded, grew, and sold a variety of businesses and employed thousands in both Canada and the United States. Henry made his first business acquisitions in Red Deer with partner Gordon Spackman in the early 60’s that included Prairie School Buses, CKRD Radio and Television. In the 70’s, Henry along with partner Eddie Wong, provided staff and equipment under Cash Casino and started Bass Ticketing in Calgary. In 1980, with partner Rick Billings, Henry acquired a floundering Canon dealership in Minneapolis and turned International Office Systems into one of the most successful privately owned Canon and office equipment dealerships in the United States. In the late 80’s, Henry, partner John LaVoie, and Brent Johnson started Winning Ways, a Casino Busing Company that delivered 200 weekly busloads of eager patrons to casinos in the Minneapolis, MN area. In 1996, Henry ventured back into the radio broadcast business in Medford, OR, with his son Dean, he remained providing the guidance that each of his partners valued.

His countless friends and associates will remember his big personality and even bigger laugh. Henry loved to travel the world and made a point of seeing most of it, whether for pleasure or business, traveling with family or friends, Henry left nothing on his bucket list. Boating, water skiing, golf, and great live entertainment were important aspects of his life but they always played second fiddle to time spent with his family and friends.

Henry is survived by Judy (Brian) Cook, Dean (Gail) Flock, Janice (Ross) Campbell, and Deborah Flock, grandchildren, Carter and Fraser Cook, Staesha Flock, Tristan, Allyson and Errin Campbell; and six great-grandchildren, Barbara Flock, Kelly and Kent Watts. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Cacia, his siblings, Alfred, Merlin, George, Donald and Shirley; wife Elaine, and his long and good friend Loretta McCallum.

A Celebration of Henry’s well-lived Life will be held at a later date, currently expected in late June or early July, Covid protocols dependent (bring your best Hank the Tank memories). Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

In living memory of Henry Flock, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
