Gary Dwayne Brandley passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, AB, with Sheila and Rita by his side.

 

Gary was born in Raymond, AB, on September 30, 1947, to Donna and Grant Brandley. He spent his younger years on the family farm in Wrentham until the family moved to Calgary in 1959. He was a truck driver since he was 18 years old and drove truck off and on all his life, as well as working construction for a few years.

 

Gary met his first wife, Linda Ames, in 1967 and they married in 1969. Sheila Karen Brandley was born in 1972. She became Dad’s helper. In 1980, he met Rita Knittle and they remained together since, in their home in Penbrooke.

 

In retirement, Gary enjoyed camping, fishing, and big game hunting. He was well known for the deer jerky that he would make. Another of his favourite pastimes was spending time with the little boys, Jaky and Zak, who called him Papa.

 

Gary was predeceased by his parents Donna and Grant; his brother Tracey, and sister-in-law Betty. He is survived by his wife Rita, daughter Sheila Brandley, and Rita’s children, Darcy (granddaughter Faylin) and Renee and Dee; as well nephews Ryan and Daniel Brandley; special nephew Dale Ames, many nieces and nephews in the Ames extended family; and several cousins in and around Alberta.

 

Cremation will take place. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be arranged at a future date.
