Obituary of Darren Eugene Thomas Zulinick

December 6, 1968 - Prince George, British Columbia

March 31, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Darren Zulinick, beloved husband of Marlaina Zulinick (nee Moloney) of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the age of 53 years.

Darren was born in Prince George, BC on December 6, 1968; he was the fourth son to Tony and Rose Zulinick. When Darren was just two years old, the Zulinick family moved from PG to Mackenzie, B.C., where Darren would live with his family until he graduated from Mackenzie Secondary School in 1986. Darren later completed a diploma in Criminology in Vancouver.  After graduating high school, he began dating Marlaina Moloney, who also lived in Mackenzie.  Darren and Mars followed each other around until they married September 13, 1997, in Las Vegas and have been together ever since.

Darren became a manager in the commercial parking business and he and Marlaina moved to San Francisco, CA in 2004 so he could oversee parking at Major League Baseball’s Giants Stadium.  Darren loved working with the Giants and enjoyed all the events he got to attend. Sydney, the other love of his life, was born in April 2005.  Darren and family moved to Minneapolis for a short time and then returned to Canada, where Darren became a partner in a start-up Vancouver based parking company. They settled in North Vancouver for a couple years until Darren accepted a directors job with Alberta Health Services in 2012.  The family moved to Airdrie, AB, where they purchased a home and built a life.

Darren loved food and wine, and ultimately became an amazing chef who loved to entertain friends and family at every opportunity.  He loved his monthly gaming nights with his friends both near and far.   He was very proud of his only child Sydney and has always said that she will achieve anything she sets her mind to. Darren loved his daily walks with Charlie the third (aka Sausage). Darren always had a Dad joke on the ready and got people to laugh very easily. He was quick of wit, ready to debate, easy to laugh, kind and loving. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and dedicated brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He will be dearly missed.

Besides his loving wife, Darren is survived by his daughter Sydney, brothers Mitch and Randy, who reside in Kamloops, BC; nieces Bailey and Kate; and nephews, Kristian, Morgan, and Aaron.

Darren was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Rose; brother Joseph, and nephew Jesstin.

In living memory of Darren Zulinick, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive, Airdrie, AB T4B 3L8, Telephone: 403-948-1100.
