Obituary of Ken Varoney

January 20, 1975 – Kamloops, British Columbia

April 6, 2022 – Okotoks, Alberta

Ken Varoney, beloved husband of Kendra Varoney, of Okotoks, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the age of 47 years.

Ken was born in Kamloops, BC, on January 20, 1975. Ken attended school in Tilley, and later went on to graduate as a Journeyman Automotive Technician. He was employed with the Calgary Police Service and Advantage Ford at the time of his passing.

Ken accomplished many things throughout his life, but he was most proud of his daughters, Megan and Alyssa. He spent much of his free time with his girls camping, skiing, travelling and, most recently, teaching them to drive.

Ken had many hobbies including: barbequing, smoking the perfect brisket, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed spending time with his nephews and nieces, and many friends, watching sports and sharing jokes that would always be accompanied by his big laugh and even bigger smile.

Ken’s favourite saying was “Hey, buddy.” He will be most remembered for his great sense of humour, contagious laugh, and his immense capacity to care for those he loved.

Along with his loving wife Kendra, Ken is survived by his two cherished daughters Megan and Alyssa; his needy and beloved dog, Ruby; parents Allan and Lynda Varoney of Medicine Hat, AB; siblings Darren (daughters Phoebe and Maddie) Varoney, of Fort McMurray, AB; Kevin (partner Nader) Varoney of Burnaby, BC; Jason (wife Krystal) Varoney, of Fort McMurray, AB; Sharie (husband Aaron and children Marshall, Lane and Owen) Suchy, of Tilley, AB; and grandmother Phoebe Hutchinson. Ken is also survived by brother-in-law Mike (wife Jen and children Jasper and Oliver) Burak; sister in-law Denise Burak and parents-in-law John and Georgia Burak.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm. A public viewing will be held prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45 pm. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Ken’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
