Condolences
I knew Joan and her mother for many years through my grandmother, Ellen Kliewer. My grandmother always spoke highly of Joan and recalled many memories of Curling with Joan and trips to Joan's home in Banff. Joan was a very special person and she will always be missed.
I had the privilege of meeting Joan and her mother Phoebe in 1990. I had left a war-torn country a few months earlier and although it was a relief, I missed my family dearly. When Phoebe passed away, I kept visiting with Joan and meeting her friends and, later, caretakers. My children also had a chance to meet such an extraordinary lady. She will always have a special place in my heart.
Great Philanthropist for the City of Calgary and her Hometown Sasketchawan Rest in Paradise Mam Joan.
Our sincere condolences to Joan's family and friends. We had the pleasure of sitting behind Joan and her mother at the Stampeders games for over two decades. They both brought a smile and a positive presence to each and every game. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her and by those that didn't but benefitted from her generosity and philanthropy. Calgary is better because of her. Rest in peace Joan.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Joan when I was working for the Wood's Homes Foundation. I always admired her quick wit and commitment to help causes near and dear to her heart. To me, Joan was an exemplary example of a true philanthropist. I am thankful I got the opportunity to know her. Rest in peace Joan.
Our condolences to Joan's family and friends. Joan and my Mom grew up together and stayed in contact until she passed. Thank you Joan for all you did for Calgary and Eatonia. You will be missed.
The Calgary Humane Society is greatly saddened by the passing of our long-time friend and supporter, Joan Snyder. For over seventy years, Joan and her family have supported our work in animal welfare and particularly humane education. We extend our deepest condolences to Joan's family and close friends while we extend our deepest gratitude for her incredible contributions to our work. We will miss her profoundly.
The employees and volunteers of Heritage Park extend our condolences to Joan’s family and friends. We are honoured Joan considered Heritage Park to be among her meaningful connections in Calgary. Her commitment to the Park helped establish many of our historical exhibits. Through her philanthropy, she helped bring to life the stories of Canada’s Famous 5, who petitioned and won the right for women to be considered as “Persons”, as well as those stories of early immigrants journeying West, others enjoying luxury rail travel and those who helped birth Alberta’s energy story – past, present and future. Joan will be missed by all of us here at Heritage Park, both for her friendship and her contributions to important capital projects and exhibit and artifact preservation.

I’ve know Joan for many years. I did her city cense for over 30 years. Every April I had to allow extra time when on her street as she invited me in for a visit. She was a very caring, down to earth women. She shared her wealth where ever she could help. I retired as a Census in 2011 and had been meaning to reconnect with her but as we do so often wait until tomorrow. I my sorry I haven’t seen her for some time but very happy to have know her. Joan was such a wonderful woman. She was smart, kind, generous, caring, and had a heart of gold. From my first trip to Calgary as a child to seeing the 2019 stampede with her, I will miss her greatly. Her contributions have touched every corner of Alberta and there will never be another person quite like Joan. Miss you Joan, sending my love.
There is not enough space here to share all of the wonderful memories I have of you, Joan. You have touched countless people with your quiet generosity, determined outlook, and steady presence. I will miss you.
