Obituary of Carol Eleanor Wilmot (nee Giles)

September 25, 1930 - Toronto, Ontario

April 11, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Carol Eleanor Wilmot (nee Giles) was born in Toronto on Sept 25, 1930. Shortly after Carol’s birth, the Giles family (father Drummond, mother Eleanor and brother Bevans) moved to Montreal, where Carol grew up. When Carol was a teenager, the family had two more children - her brother Brooks and her sister Jennifer.

Carol attended McGill University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952.  While attending McGill she met many lifelong friends, as well as a handsome young football player from the West, her beloved Freddie Wilmot. They married in August 1952. In 1954, Carol and Fred moved to Calgary with their first son, Harry. Aside from a few years back in Montreal in the 60’s, Carol and Fred would spend the rest of their lives in Calgary. After Harry, three more children followed - Mike, Sue, and Marshall. With warmth, humour, and kindness, Carol built and maintained a remarkably strong community of friends and family from across Canada. In her own words “I lived a long and good life filled with family, friends and many, many activities”. Carol was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband Fred and granddaughter Lauren. She is survived by her children Harry (Wendy), Mike, Sue (Wes) and Marshall (Carol); her grandchildren, Scott (Sarah), Leah (Christian) and Claire (Daanish); and her great grandchildren, Cohen and Rory.

The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Fountains of Mission for making her last years so comfortable.  Flowers and donations are respectfully declined.

A private family service will be held, as requested by Carol. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
