It is with the deepest sadness, that we announce the death of Christopher David Kaiser, of Calgary, AB. Chris passed at the age of 44, following a brave battle with cancer.

Chris was born in Grand Falls, NL to Brenda Crowdis and the late David Kaiser. He grew up in Sydney Mines, NS, graduating from Memorial Composite High School in 1996. Chris went on to graduate from St. Francis Xavier University in 2002, with his Bachelor of Science degree, and Diploma in Engineering. He then completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree, in chemical engineering, from Dalhousie University in 2004. Following university, Chris lived in Scotland for a year before making Alberta his home. He was a professional engineer who spent his career practicing at Orica Canada, Nutrien, Chemtron International, and lastly, Lanmark Engineering. He earned his Professional Engineer designation through APEGA and was a Certified Functional Safety Professional. Chris made many collegial connections through his work, who became life-long friends. Often perceived as a quiet fellow, Chris was quick to win you over with his sense of humour, witty banter, intelligence, and love for his family. Chris was also a member of St. Albert the Great Parish, in Calgary.

Chris is survived by his wife of almost 18 years, Mary-Elizabeth (Campbell) Kaiser, and his three beloved children; his son, James, and his daughters; Charlotte, and Katherine, all of Calgary, AB.

Chris is also survived by his mother, Brenda Crowdis (Martin Chisholm), Newtown, NS, and sisters Shelley Muttart (Greg), Hantsport, NS and Elizabeth Percy (Adam), Conception Bay South, NL. Chris leaves behind his three nieces, who he adored, Sophie Muttart, Olivia Muttart, and Emma Percy. Chris was well loved by the family he gained through marriage and will also be dearly missed by his in-laws, Pius and Pauline Campbell, of Jamesville, NS. Chris was blessed to collect many true friends throughout his lifetime, they cared for him like family. He was also survived by many extended family members, on both sides. He was predeceased by his father David Kaiser.

Chris’ family and friends will remember him for many things; his strength, resiliency, logic, and humour, but most of all his love and care for those who played a part in his life. His children were his greatest joy. James, Charlotte, and Katherine always knew their dad loved them more than anything. He was proud of their accomplishments, advocated for them and played an active role in every aspect of their lives.  He spent many hours volunteering at their school, shuttling them to extra-curricular activities and planning family outings. He always made them feel safe and loved, he brought laughter and light to their lives.

A celebration of Chris’ life and burial is planned for a later date.  Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed here.

Chris’ family wish to extend their gratitude to his amazing medical care team. Dr. Omar Khan, his medical oncologist, Dr. Jordan Stosky, his radiation oncologist, and Dr. Serge Kongolo, his family physician. Chris encountered many doctors, nurses, technologists etc. through his medical journey and both he and our family were always amazed at the professionalism, kindness and care he received. Thank you.
