Obituary of LaVonne Dell Erickson (nee Woitas)


August 8, 1936 - April 14, 2022

 

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our much-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother LaVonne Dell Erickson on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the age of 85 years.

 

LaVonne was born in Oungre, SK to Tom and Tillie Woitas. She was raised in Weyburn, SK and attended Souris School and Weyburn Collegiate. Mom was active in track and field, played basketball with the Weyburn Eaglettes and softball with the Weyburn Beaverettes.

 

Following her marriage to Lee Erickson, they moved to British Columbia for four years. In 1958, they moved back to Weyburn, SK and then Estevan, SK. LaVonne was involved in her children’s activities and the community. She was a Brownie leader, coached girls’ softball, and served on the executive of the Estevan Figure Skating Club, including terms as President and Past President.

 

In 1969, the family moved to Calgary, AB, where she resided until her passing. Mom remained active in figure skating with the Calalta Figure Skating Club, serving as Test Chairman. As a judge, she attained her CFSA gold-level certification. Mom worked at CIBC until her retirement in 1993.

 

She is survived by her children Terry, Darryl (Loretta), Sue (Larry), and Shari (Jim); grandchildren Scott, Tara, Lindsay, David, Kathy, Melissa, Samantha, and Joe; and great-grandsons Jace, Ryett, Jackson, and Parker. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Evans and brother Pat Woitas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Lee, her brother Gary Woitas, and her sister Louise Dennehy.

 

A private Graveside Service will be held in Midale, Saskatchewan at a later date.
