Stewart Christiansen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 20 at the age of 85 years.

Stewart graduated from Turin High School in 1954.  After high school, he worked at a variety of jobs in southern Alberta including a bank teller, land surveyor and heavy equipment operator.  He then began his career working in grain elevators, initially with the Alberta Wheat Pool in both Brocket and Tempest as an assistant. He managed his first elevator on the Piikani Nation (formerly the Peigan Nation).  From there he moved onto Armada, Acadia Valley, and Calgary. Stewart started his career with the United Grain Growers (UGG) in 1968 in Wimborne, transferred to Trochu in 1972 and retired in 1994.  Stewart was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Trochu Fire Department.  Through his work and volunteering, Stewart made lifelong friends.

In his free time, Stewart enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, curling, travelling, gardening, and playing cards, especially with his wife Cheri.  Stewart and Cheri, who were married for over 62 years, had an active retirement in Olds, their fifth wheel, Strathmore and then in Calgary.

Stewart is survived by his son Doug (LeAnne) Christiansen of Edmonton, AB, daughters, Laura-Lee (John) Keltie of Deep Bay, BC, and Kim (Mitchell) Zumwalt of Calgary, AB.  Grandpa Stu is very proud of his eight grandchildren - Bruce Christiansen (Daylyn Bohme), David Powell (Kelly Miller), Amanda (Matt) New, Jensen Keltie, Logan Keltie, Andrew Zumwalt, Shannon Zumwalt and Hannah Zumwalt - and his one great-granddaughter Chloe Christiansen. He will also be missed by his brother Gary (Rita) Christiansen and sister Melva (Ken) Osterman as well as numerous extended family and friends.
