Obituary of Joan Audrey Sumpton
April 16, 1934 – April 29, 2022
Lovingly Remembered.
Joan Audrey Sumpton, a sweet, strong-willed woman with an independent spirit and a love for the simple pleasures of life, passed away on April 29, 2022 at the age of 88 years old.
Joan was born in Elkpoint, Alberta. Joan's family managed a chicken farm and hatchery called "Sumpton Hatcheries." Joan was a sister to her beloved brother Bill. Joan spoke of fond memories with her brother growing up, and later shared in some world travel adventures together.
Joan was a successful woman, who worked hard at her career in the oil and gas sector of energy. Joan ran a tight ship and had a very inquisitive brain; able to fix many things herself and even keep up with technology. Joan lived with her close companion and friend Irene, whose family lovingly took her in as an extension of their own family. Joan and her friends made it a point to celebrate nights out for dinner on special occasions like Christmas and New Years at local restaurants for all you can Chinese, the Blackfoot Diner or a classic restaurant serving an exceptional holiday spread.
Joan had a mischievous smile, a love for hockey games, a nice steak dinner, any dessert you can think of, strong coffee and occasional cold beers. Many that met her would chuckle at some of the ordinary things she would say. Others who had have met her in recent years would relish her funniness and whit. Her sweet countenance will be remembered and cherished until we meet again in Heaven.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Heritage, 1708, 16th Avenue N, across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
