Obituary of Adolph (Ed) Sevcik

July 7, 1933 - Condor, Alberta
May 1, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Ed Sevcik, beloved husband of Lillian, passed away on May 1, 2022 at the age of 88 years after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Condor, AB, Ed worked on the family farm and eventually pursued a teaching degree from the University of Calgary.  His first teaching job was for two years in Lethbridge, AB and then he moved back to Calgary, AB where he took up a teaching position and retired in 1989 after 30 years with the Calgary Public School System as a Science Specialist. He went to Guatemala in 1976 to help build Alliance Churches after the earthquake and also had the opportunity to travel to other parts of the world after his retirement.

Beside his loving wife of almost 66 years, Ed is survived by two sons, Dale (Barb) and Neal (partner Barb) of Calgary, AB.  He will be lovingly remembered by his two grandchildren, Ashley (Jeff) Williams and Daniel Sevcik; as well as his two great-grandsons, Adam and Leon. Ed will be missed by his siblings, Marie Boot and Irene Sevcik; as well as other family members and many friends.

His sense of humour and knowledge that he shared with everyone will never be forgotten by those who knew him, as well as the pleasure he took in helping others.

The family would like to send a very special thanks to the Chinook Hospice staff for their compassionate, excellent care for Ed while he was there.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street SE) on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ray Matheson officiating. For those who are unable to attend in person, a recording of the service will be posted soon afterwards. Condolences, memories, and photos of Ed may also be shared and viewed here.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Operation Smile, www.operationsmile.ca.
