Condolences
I loved Grandma Metcalf. I have nothing but good memories of her. I can't pick just one.
I am so sorry I missed the service for Ms. Viola. When I went to sit down to finish my paper from the other day there is Ms. Viola saying goodbye to me. My name is Laura Tysowski and I am a member of St. Patrick's Parish Pastoral Care and was assigned to do a Communion Service at Swan Evergreen. This is where I met Ms. Viola. She would often come to the Service in the Theatre or I would visit her in her room to do the Service and give her communion. It was a honor and a privilege to know Ms. Viola. We would spend time chatting and reminiscing about her pictures of her children and grandchildren. I also had the honor to work with Calvin at the Calgary Police Service and told him I would take care of his mom when I attended Swan Evergreen. I was sorry to hear of his passing knowing how much he loved and cared for his mother. With COVID things changed and Services stopped. But my prayers for Ms. Viola and Calvin did not stop. Most of us get up in the morning put our feet on the ground and God says. "You still have work do to." With Ms. Viola and Calvin they were that precious to him he came to carry them home." Rest in Peace my dear friends. My heartful sympathies to the family. I will continue to pray for you in this time of grief. Ms. Laura.
My grandmother Vi was absolute gem. She truly lived out the mandate in James 3:13 "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom."
When I was a little girl, she owned a fabric store. I loved to visit her there. She was a very talented seamstress (which I did not inherit) but also dabbled in various arts and inspired me to try new things as well. She did everything from painting ceramics to reupholstering furniture. Well into her 80s she was still creating new things, most notably the thousands of rosaries she made that were sent overseas to various missions.
She was widowed in her late 50s and never forgot my grandfather. After 35 years, they are finally reunited! During those years, she opened her home to family and friends without hesitation, going over and above to accommodate our needs. When I was 16, and my parents were going through a nasty divorce, she took me in and I stayed for 4 years. What a blessing it was to have that safe and peaceful haven.
One of my favourite memories was when she came to visit me in Nova Scotia and we took a holiday around all the Atlantic Provinces: sailing on the Bluenose II, visiting Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America), marvelling at the tides in the Bay of Fundy, and of course going to see Green Gables on PEI.
My boys loved to go up and visit her. She was the best cook, and had a whole closet full of toys for them to play with.
Grandma always had a smile and we laughed together so much (mostly at ourselves). She had a dream once that everyone was stopping her on the street to tell her she was the most beautiful woman in the world. To me, she really was. Inside and out.
Charlene,Judy, and Kimberly my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother Viola.I was so blessed to have had her as my Mother in-law. I am filled with so many wonderful memories of her. From her getting her pant leg caught up the chain of her bike, while out bike riding with her to dancing up a storm in pool with water exercise. Summer days, working in the garden together ,Sitting hours, shelling pea pods with Chico on her lap.Days of canning ,and freezing vegetables. One year,we decided to make our own horse radish. It grew wild,so we decided to give it a try. It took us a couple of days before we could talk, and see normal again..Evenings spent playing scrabble into the wee hours of the morning, and enjoying our "Moodey Blue"wine.Years of playing crib was filled laughter, because Vi had a tendency to move your peg,or move hers backwards. She was a very talented lady, and I am sure that we all at one time or another, we all received a home made ceramic gift. She was a great seamstress ,and knitter. Her needle point embroidery was amazing. I often wonder how many angel food cakes with sea foam icing she made.It was her signature Birthday Cake.Black forest cherry cake, Kentucky Fried Chicken,Chinese food all bring memories. I remember us in the early years trying to save money, and giving each other hair cuts and perms. Some were better than others, and the very short period of time, when Vi decided to reuse coffee grounds. She used the same grounds for a few days in a row.Wonerful thought of road trips and family reunions. Traveled to Europe with her,and the laughs and stories that we shared, could fill a book. Was so blessed to have that opportunity. Vi,always had a smile and also a flair about her.She was truly a kind and caring person, and so loved by all.We miss and mourn her. Our heart aches for her,but I know God is smiling, because his angel is back home with him.
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. She was a special lady.
Vi was always so warm and friendly to everyone ! She always had a smile on her face and a storey to tell! She will be missed by so many! Sending our love and sympathy to the family ! Dan and Wendy Edgar❤️
