Obituary of Nadia Anne McCALLUM

June 1, 1929 – Anglia, Saskatchewan September 23, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta We say good-bye to Nadia, much-loved sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother, who died peacefully after a hard-fought battle with heart, respiratory and other ailments. Born in Anglia, SK, Nadia was a pure prairie girl who could work all day, build a jellied salad with the best of them, dance all night and be back on the job the next morning. The family moved to Calgary in the early 1960s and Nadia made a host of lifelong friends through her work outside the home, active church life and volunteer activities. She loved all the people in her life with a deep and resilient strength. Nadia was a charter member of the United Church Women, taught Sunday school and volunteered for many activities through her long-time membership at St. Andrew’s United Church in Calgary. Activities included rummage sales, Inn from the Cold, Fall Suppers, baking and serving, ushering and greeting. She also welcomed new members to the church and was a member of the Know Your Neighbour group. She loved cooking, knitting, dancing, card games, camping and boating. Nadia was predeceased by Arnold, her loving husband since 1951; and by her parents Antoni and Tekla. She is sadly missed by her brother Tony (Terri); sister Lynn (Jim); son Tony (Maggie); daughter Darcy (Todd); grandchildren Lindsey, Matthew, Byron, Jacquie (Mike) and Ian; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. “Gone from us that smiling face, the cheerful pleasant ways, the heart that won so many friends, in bygone, happy days. A life made beautiful by kindly deeds, a helping hand for others’ needs. To a beautiful life, comes a happy end, she died as she lived, everyone’s friend.” –Author Unknown Funeral Services will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 – 63rd Avenue S.W.) on October 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
